Prompt #11: What does it mean to live boldly?
Ohhhh, this is perhaps my favorite prompt so far! Get ready as I expound on my thoughts of a life lived boldly.
“Freedom lies in being bold”Robert Frost
First of all, I think living boldly means different things for different people. It can also mean different things at different stages of your own life.
I like to think I have lived a pretty bold life. I know my 50’s have been my boldest decade yet. However, the prompt is about what defines a bold life.
To me, a bold life is one that pushes boundaries and some social norms. The type of life that causes admiration in friends and family because they recognize that you are stepping outside your comfort zone (and usually theirs as well).
“The woman who does not require validation from anyone is the most feared individual on the planet”From The Boldersister.com
A bold life is one that is lived right on the edge or sometimes past the line of comfort. You aren’t stuck in the everyday each day of your life. You find meaning in both large and small actions.
Examples of small actions could be volunteering. It could be enjoying or participating in the Arts. Large bold actions could be moving to another city, quitting, getting a new job, traveling, learning (there is a lot of personal experience in these examples – 😉).
“Boldness isn’t something you’re born with; you either choose it or you don’t.”Michael Yaconelli
Living boldly requires one to keep learning, growing and pushing (sometimes strong pushing, sometimes gentle nudges).
“I can accept failure; everyone fails at something. But I can’t accept not trying.”Michael Jordan
However, living boldly also means that there will be failures along the way. If you aren’t failing sometimes, you aren’t pushing far enough past your comfort zone. Living boldly means you cannot fear failure so much that you don’t challenge yourself.
“Failure is an inescapable part of life and a critically important part of any successful life”Tal Ben-Shahar
I am living a bold life for the most part – at least I like to think I am. How about you? Are you living boldly?
